An exciting draw between Juventus and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League
Hector Herrera snatched a point for Atletico Madrid with a late header that saw his side return from two objectives down to attract 2-2 their Champions League opener against Juventus on Wednesday.
Herrera smashed home Kieran Tripper's corner in the last moment to finish the rebound after Juve had proceeded through Juan Cuadrado's brilliant strike only seconds after the break and a projectile header from Blaise Matuidi on 65 minutes.
Stefan Savic gave the home fans trust when he pulled one back for Atletico five minutes after Frenchman Matuidi had multiplied the away side's lead.
Both side currently trail Lokomotiv Moscow in Group D on account of the Russians' 2-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen after an outcome that will leave Maurizio Sarri's side disillusioned they didn't get more from a noteworthy second-half show.
Cuadrado had flashed Juve into the lead two minutes after the restart with a remarkable strike after great work from Gonzalo Higuain, who rolled a slick pass that enabled the Colombian to crush home the opener.
Jose Maria Gimenez then left behind a decent opportunity to level when he impacted over Koke's low cross, and the away side promoted when Matuidi charged onto Alex Sandro's cross and pounded his header past Jan Oblak.
The hosts got once again into the game very quickly when Savic headed home a transcending Gimenez's ideal knockdown, and they were then arguing for a punishment with seven minutes left when official Danny Makkelie waved away their interests in spite of Matthijs de Ligt kicking the ball onto a clueless Leonardo Bonucci's hand.
Juve had nearly restored their two-objective preferred position just before when Higuain's ground-breaking shot was pushed out to Matuidi, whose follow-up was tidied up the line by Trippier.
Anyway Atletico got what was at last a merited point with one more header, this time from substitute Herrera who overshadowed a strangely feeble Juve guard to send the home fans wild.
